The Fancy is the creation of the composer/songwriter duo Clara Latham and Seth Garrison. Classically trained musicians with a serious love for popular forms, The Fancy merges chamber music and pop sensibilities with earnest song writing and dramatic flair. With Amy Cimini (Till by Turning, Starring, Christy & Emily) on viola and Katherine Young (Till by Turning, the Nightingales, Anthony Braxton’s Falling River Quartet) on bassoon, The Fancy orchestrates lush tunes so timeless you think you might already know them. Always focused on the integrity of the sound and honesty of the song, The Fancy is hard to categorize. The band’s diverse influences include devout obsessions with Mariah Carey and Fleetwood Mac, as well as heartfelt admiration for Robert Ashley and Prince.
The Fancy’s self-titled EP, recorded at Seaside Lounge in Brooklyn, is currently available on the band’s website. With A. Craig Bray appearing as percussionist, mixing engineer and co-arranger, this five-track EP overflows with vocal harmony, full-band counterpoint, thick orchestral textures, and tongue-in-cheek lyricism. Check out the brand new video for the opening track, “Breadwinners”! Directed by Ry Russo-Young, shot by Kitao Sakurai and co-produced by The Fancy, the video is available for download as part of the digital album package.
